The First Annual Oak Cliff Film Festival is This Weekend!
The inaugural Oak Cliff Film Festival, taking place at the historic Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater, the Bishop Arts Theater (formerly the Bluebird Theater), and the Belmont Hotel will take place during the week of June 14-17th, 2012. The film festival will feature the very best of Oak Cliff’s theater venues, as well as highlight the popular restaurants and bars of the burgeoning Bishop Arts District. Led by the Aviation Cinemas team who took over operations at the Texas Theatre in December of 2010, the Oak Cliff Film Festival will seek to showcase “brave and independent filmmaking of all stripes” from Oak Cliff, Dallas, Denton, Austin, and Fort Worth, as well as nationally and internationally.
The Oak Cliff Film Festival, taking place at the legendary Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater, the Bishop Arts “TeCo” Theater (formerly the Bluebird Theater), the Dallas Zoo, the Belmont Hotel, El Sibel Studio, The Turner House and Oil & Cotton during the week of June 14-17th, 2012 proudly announce the following films, events, and concerts (Full schedule to be announced May 14th):
● Special screening of Love and a .45 (35mm) with Cast and Crew in attendance.
● Outdoor screening at the Dallas Zoo of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.
● Belmont Hotel Poolside screenings presented by Tuesday Night Trash.
● Music video showcase at historic El Sibil, former studio of Frank Reaugh built in 1928.
● Experimental “Cinema 16″ shorts showcase and Amos Vogel tribute at Oil & Cotton.
● Ghastly Love of Johnny X (35mm): a sci-fi musical!
● Your Brother, Remember: a bizarre home video tribute to Kickboxer and Faces of Death.
● Special Balloon Program: The Black Balloon (35mm) along with The Red Balloon (35mm).
● The Comedy – Featuring Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim in a movie where they don’t play Tim and Eric!
● The Ambassador – a genre-breaking, tragic doc comedy about the bizarre world of African diplomacy.
● Filmmaking workshop at The Oak Cliff Cultural Center with Bradley Beesley, (Okie Noodling, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo, Fearless Freaks)
● Live Music from New Fumes, Diamond Age, Night Game, Beau Jennings, Neeks, George Quartz, and a special live performance from My Education to the 1927 silent Murnau classic Sunrise (35mm)

Don’t Forget that East Dallas Gallery Day Is This Saturday June 16th from 12-9 PM!
East Dallas Gallery Day is a unified effort by 9 established galleries located in the neighborhoods of Deep Ellum and Expo Park, to kick off the Summer and get people in the galleries. The event will take place on June 16, 2012 from 12-9 PM. The participating galleries include: Barry Whistler Gallery, The Public Trust, Kirk Hopper Fine Art, Kettle Art, W.A.A.S. Gallery, 500X Gallery, CentralTrak, The Reading Room and Oliver Francis Gallery. From 12-3 gallery goers can grab a bite from Dallas’ finest food trucks which will be open for business in front of the galleries. All of the participating galleries will be serving complimentary ice cold beverages, including Brooklyn Lager courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery. There will also be 30 gift bags at each gallery which include the official East Dallas Gallery Day T-shirt designed Magnificent Beard, courtesy of Madison Partners, the event’s presenting sponsor.

Billed as the City of Dallas’ official Independence Day celebration, MetroPCS Fair Park Fourth will feature fireworks from inside the historic Cotton Bowl, a Dallas Wind Symphony patriotic performance, reduced admission to Fair Park’s museums from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., “dancing water” shows at the Esplanade Fountain, carnival games and more from 4:30 – 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Admission is free.
‘Metonymic Transfiguration’ Opens June 17 at Tyler Museum of Art!

Metonymic Transfiguration: The Apotheosis of the Body in Recent Works of Jack Barnett opens at the Tyler Museum of Art on June 17. This exciting exhibition will consist of over 40 paintings by Texas artist Jack Barnett. It brings together a wide variety of his works, ranging from classic nudes to figurative abstractions.
Come Out And See ‘BASQUIAT’ at AT&T PAC’s Annette Strauss Square at 8:30pm on June 16th!
Join the DFS & the AT&T Performing Arts Center every third Saturday for Film screenings in Annette Strauss Square. Admission is free! Please RSVP Here.
